The game features support for up to 24 players, but certain maps are better for higher or lower numbers. Using the custom match tool works well (although it's nice to turn off the auto-connect option so you can browse the servers), and you can quickly find a game to your liking. The biggest improvement in the online arena is the netcode, which allows for a smooth, lag-free experience on Xbox Live. This allows for a wide variety of combat, and you'll constantly be thinking of new ways to use your gadget of choice. For instance, the Sniper can briefly see the locations of his foes with the help of a handheld device, while the Spec Ops guy can plant remotely detonated C4 packs. You'll be able to choose from one of the game's 5 combat classes (Assault, Support, Sniper, Spec Ops, and Engineer), each of which offers a fairly standard selection of weaponry, as well as some unique tools of their trade. When you kick off your multiplayer career, you'll be nothing more than a lowly private, but all it takes is some solid play in a few ranked matches to begin your move up the ladder.
